Sun secured his seat in 2021 by winning a $28 million charity auction organized by Blue Origin. The proceeds from the auction were donated to \"Club for the Future,\" a foundation focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, which is supported by Blue Origin.

Initially planned for an earlier flight, Sun’s journey was delayed and will now take place on the NS-34 mission. This will be the 34th flight of the New Shepard rocket and the 14th time it has carried human passengers. The New Shepard is a suborbital, reusable launch vehicle designed for brief spaceflights that cross the Kármán line, which is the internationally recognized boundary of space at an altitude of 100 kilometers above Earth.

The flight is expected to last approximately 10 minutes, during which passengers will experience several minutes of weightlessness before the capsule returns to Earth using parachutes. All launches are conducted from Blue Origin’s Launch Site One located in West Texas.
